Summer Literacy Groups

  • Foundation Builders

    Equips students with the foundations of reading and writing. They will develop phonics knowledge and make connections between letters and sounds. Through multi-sensory activities and experiences, students will learn that words are made up of sound segments and improve their ability to associate symbols with sounds. Foundation Builders will also enhance students' fine motor skills, pencil grip, and letter formation techniques. Through direct, systematic instruction students will gain the foundational skills needed to be successful readers.

    Recommended for students 4 - 7 yrs.

  • Fluency Builders

    Reviews and expands upon the foundational concepts of reading by learning syllable types and spelling rules to enhance reading fluency and skill. Through direct instruction, and shared reading students will acquire the skills needed to be proficient readers. Additionally, students will be introduced to grammar, which will cultivate a comprehensive understanding of language. Fluency Builders will solidify students’ foundation in phonics, reading comprehension, grammar, and spelling.

    Recommended for students 7 - 10 yrs reading below grade level.

  • Emergent Literacy Play Groups

    Familiarize your toddler with the sights and sounds of the alphabet through engaging songs, activities and books. Come and play with your child for an educational half hour or drop them off to play with their animal alphabet friends for an engaging hour.

    Kindergarten Readiness: Three and four-year-olds will enjoy building reading and writing skills. We will establish connections in their brain for sounds and symbols as we prepare for reading and strengthen fine motor skills as we prepare for writing. All literacy activities are multi-sensory, taught with direct and explicit instruction and are fun!

  • Summer Literacy Bridge

    Cultivate your child’s love of reading during the summer. Summer Literacy Bridge will keep your students’ skills fresh. Students will have the opportunity to discover new authors and stories they enjoy. They will learn literacy skills that will continue to help them throughout the school year and will enjoy learning new grammar and spelling techniques which will give them a boost when school starts in the fall. Your child will continue to grow and learn throughout the summer, bridging the gap from the end of the school year to the beginning.

    Recommended for students 7 - 12 yrs reading on or above grade level.

FAQs

  • Students of all ages and abilities can benefit from learning to read in a small group setting.

    Foundation Builders are generally for students ages 4 through 7 years.

    Fluency Builders are generally for students ages 7 through 10 years.

    There is a literacy group for all students toddler through 5th grade, whether your child is a great reader and you want to encourage their enthusiasm or your child struggles and you are looking to raise their reading level to grade level for the fall.

  • Students will have the opportunity to practice reading, writing, grammar and spelling skills. They will not only practice skills learned the previous school year, but learn new skills to ready them for the next.

    Students will receive explicit literacy instruction and homework to maintain learning and skills.

  • 4 week groups: June 5 through July 2nd and July 9 through August 5.

    8 week groups: June 10 through August 9.

    Groups will have one week vacation from July 2nd through July 9th for Fourth of July Vacations.

    All groups/time slots have a maximum of four spots available.

    Sign up anytime through June.

  • Reading groups will meet at my home office in Littleton, Colorado.

  • Foundation Builders are recommended to meet Monday through Thursday.

    Fluency Builders are recommended to meet two to four times a week depending on the needs of the group.

    Summer Literacy Bridge groups are recommended to meet once per week with about 20 minutes of homework daily.

    Reading group times are flexible, the earlier you sign up, the more ability I will have to work with your schedule.

    If the scheduled sessions do not work for your family please contact me and we will find an alternative that is best for you.

  • Initial Assessment is free.

    Family Emergent Literacy Groups are $20 per family per 30 minutes.

    Drop off Emergent Literacy Groups are $40 per child.

    Group rates are $35 per student for 45 minutes.

    Sign up before May 15 and receive $5 dollars off per session throughout the summer.

  • Sign up anytime through June.

    4 week groups: June 5 through July 2nd and July 9th through August 5th.

    8 week groups: June 10 through August 9.

    Your child can still be part of a group and miss one or two weeks for vacations.

    Groups will have one week vacation from July 2nd through July 9th for Fourth of July Vacations.
